Joe Joe Music

Joseph “Joe Joe” Callender is an entertainer at heart. From humble beginnings in St. Michael, Barbados, he brings the sounds of Motown, R&B, Soca, Reggae, Pop and more to the world. 

He was first discovered at age 12 by professional boxer, the late Winston “Cassius Clay” Yearwood. Cassius led tours to North America as director of The Eggs Band. This sparked Joseph’s newfound obsession with saxophone and connecting with other musicians to spread the best vibes possible.

Joseph went on to study music theory at Barbados Community College (’08-11) and was soon introduced to jazz legend, the late Archie Alleyne. Archie awarded Joe Joe a bursary at Naniki Jazz Festival in 2011 for continued education. Once graduated from BCC, Joseph began touring for the next five years throughout the Caribbean, entertaining with the NJ3O band, 1688 Orchestra, Arturo Tappin, Marissa Lindsay, and others in the Caribbean music scene. 
He’s had the privilege to play with great acts like John Legend, India Irie, Lalah Hathaway, Lila Ike, Mikey Spice, Kirk Diamond, and many more. 
 

In 2014, Archie helped Joseph apply to Humber College of Music, granting a second scholarship to help cover international tuition fees. With an eagerness to grow his budding career, Joseph produced a sold out event, ‘On the Other Side’ to raise funds for his journey to Canada. He recalls the night as “magical,” performing alongside veteran pianist, Ebe Gilkes. 


In 2020, Joe Joe graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music from Humber College. While navigating the global pandemic, Joseph and his fiancé brought their daughter into the world and continued creating music at home despite the crash on the live music scene. 

It is music which keeps the fire blazing and spreading positive light to the world, so Joe Joe decided to open up his home studio in 2022. Alongside his prolific live career, he provides one-on-one lessons, workshops, music direction, and digital courses to his online audience.
